SITE UPDATES

Welcome! Please check the links above to view the galleries!

August 20th 2008. It has taken me while to get back to this website! For starters, I've been away to New Zealand for a month, where Wil and I have been touring around.
Throughout the rest of the time, I didn't have FTP anymore and there had been some issues with the website itself, but all that has been solved now. I am closing the blog here on my own domain, though - but I am starting one at wordpress or blogspot sometime this week. It will mainly serve to share my experiences with photography :) You'll find the link here when the blog is ready.
In the meantime I will also re-arrange this portfolio, and add/remove any appropriate photos. A re-design might be in the works, but it's possible I'll just polish up this current layout and continue on with it for another while to come.

BIOGRAPHY

Karin Elizabeth, 25 years old, The Netherlands.

In a few words: loved, forever the student, vegetarian, traveler, coffee addict (or tea), dorky.

What started out as a year abroad (2000-2001, South Dakota, USA) became something else entirely: my introduction to photography. Though not concerned with composition or technique, for me those snapshots were my story - more so than words. So it began, my affinity with capturing important moments through photographs.

It wasn't until four years later that I picked up a camera again. I was more serious about documenting memories such as places visited, smiles with friends. I thought photography was meaningful already; I never thought it could matter so much more to me. Instead, around the time I started self-portraiting, photography became my therapy, my way of letting out my emotions. Happiness and sadness alike. Now every photo I take is a look into my life as well as an entry in a visual journal.

Other ways I like to spend my time are traveling (especially when Wil is with me), reading, activities with friends and family, web design, painting, swimming, hiking and writing.

TECHNICAL STUFF

Digital SLR equipment: Canon EOS 350d camera, Canon 18-55mm kit lens, Canon 50mm f/1.4 USM. Sometimes (well, often) I use Wil's Sigma 10-20mm, Tamron 28-300mm or Sigma 18-200mm lenses.

Film SLR equipment: Canon EOS 300 camera, using mostly the 50mm or Tamron lenses. I have shot colour film and plan on working more with Ilford b&w film in the future.

Polaroid: SX-70 sonar black b (600 film + nd filter), one classic (779 or 600 film).

Toy cameras /other : Lomo LC-A, Holga CFN (120mm), Lomo Smena 35, Vivitar Ultra Wide & Slim (35mm), Canon Snappy, Panoramic wide pic (35mm), Kodak Duaflex 2 (for Through the Viewfinder technique).

Wishlist contains a Diana + with pinhole function added to it, a wide angle lens of my own, Wil would like the 500mm lens :P and I wouldn't particularly mind a Leica either. (A girl can dream.)
